From Introspection to Christo-spection
1 John 4:17 ESV
By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the Day of Judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world.
Beloved who we are, here an now, is found in our identification with Christ our Lord and Savior! We have been included in His death, burial, and resurrection through faith, but we have also been included in His ascension and His glorification. My friend, even right now, where ever you are, if you wear His name you are in Him. His life is yours. And not only that, but “As He is so are you in this world!”
The Greek word used for “is” here is ἐστί (esti) and it is in the present indicative verb form. Meaning that, as Christ is continuously, right now in His glory, likewise so are you! The indicative mood indicates a simple fact, which means that this statement is true regardless of your experience, or even your awareness of said fact! It is true with or without you!
The life of a Christian is to be one in which we are as He is, right now, and not later at some point when we become good enough, or after we have reached some form of breakthrough. No! We need not peel back any layers from who we used to be, seeing as that man is dead and gone! Rather, we are now in fullness as He Himself is in fullness! Hallelujah! Praise the Lord that is good news! The days of striving and trying have been nailed to His cross and we have entered His rest and joy!
This verse reveals to us our quality of life is to be exactly as His is even now! Tell me beloved, is Christ overcome by sin and satan? Is Christ worried about circumstances that seem overwhelming? Is our King throwing up desperate prayers for deliverance and breakthrough? Or is He on a couch reminiscing about His “soul wounds?” Then why, child of God, are you?
My friend we are living in a time when the church has pulled her eyes from the beloved and fixed her gaze upon herself! We are so introspective that we have forgotten it is what Christ has done that perfected us and not our actions or lack thereof (Heb 10:14). When we look to ourselves we find only weakness, but take heart beloved for your life is hid with Christ in God!
Today my friend let us look to Jesus! What do you see? He is enthroned right now in glory! He has won the battle and now sits at rest. No devil in hell, no circumstance, no curse, no sickness, no poverty, no form of suffering, no deception, no wound, nothing at all can touch or shake Him, and the Word of God declares that as He is so are you my friend! So what ever is nipping at your feet and intimidating you today whether it be sickness, financial issues, accusations from the enemy, condemnation or what ever, know with a settled resolve, based and the plain facts of Scripture, that you my friend are even now as He Himself is!
Own this truth by faith! Acknowledge what is in you In Christ (Philemon 1:6). Agree with God by simply giving His word an amen and rest, knowing that you cannot ever be overcome shaken or brought low, for as He is so are you!
