Inheritance of The Saints
In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will
Child of God, are you aware that you have been given an inheritance in Christ? Right now, wherever you are, if you are in Christ you possess an inheritance! We have been given a royal inheritance as 1 Peter 2:9 tells us, “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” In Christ we are both kings and priests: Meaning that as kings we are to reign over all things at all times exercising power, authority, and dominion; and as priests we are to use our power, authority, and dominion to minister to those in need.
Our inheritance can be divided into two parts:
-Positional Inheritance: our right and authority
-Provisional Inheritance: our resources and supply
Positional Inheritance refers to our identification with Christ Romans 8:17 tells us that we are not only children of God, but we are joint-heirs with Christ! That means that what is rightfully Christ’s inheritance is equally and rightfully ours!
The Bible portrays this reality in a couple different ways. In Ephesians 5 we are given an illustration of Christ and His church painted for us on the canvas of marriage: Christ the groom and the church His bride. Thus what is the groom’s becomes the bride’s and what is the bride’s becomes the groom’s.
The Bible also tells us in 1 Corinthians 6:17 that we who are joined to the Lord have become one spirit with Him and thus once again we see that what is true of Him becomes true of us and what is true of us becomes true of Him.
This means the glory, righteousness, honor, and kingdom of Christ has become our own, while our sin, death, and unrighteousness became His own for six hours as He hung between heaven and earth upon the tree. Our sin death and brokenness was transferred onto Him, and all His righteousness, perfection, and majesty was transferred onto us! Praise God!
1 John 4:17 sums up our Positional Inheritance quite well when it says, “As He is so are we in this world.”
Our Provisional Inheritance focuses more on the supernatural supply that is ours through faith. This means that these resources are already ours and are activated by simple faith, or acknowledgment, of there presence in us.
We can gain an understanding of what these provisions are by examining the words used in Greek and Hebrew for “salvation.”
Yasha: literally to be open, wide or free, but often used to refer to salvation (to make safe), deliverance, welfare, victory, prosperity, and wholeness.
Σωζω (sodzo): literally to save, also to deliver, protect, heal, prosper, make whole.
We can clearly see from these two words used to describe salvation, that our provisional inheritance makes us whole, prosperous, safe, delivered, free, preserved, and victorious! The Cross of Christ and His finished work has secured this inheritance for us once and for all: Both the positional and provisional aspects of it.
That means we don’t have to earn it, strive for it, or do anything other than believe to live in the reality of it! In fact the moment you placed your trust in Christ this inheritance was poured out upon you and is in actuality yours now!
The inheritance that we have is ours through grace, meaning it is what God has done for us freely out of His own love and kindness towards us. That means we cannot earn our inheritance, nor can we produce it in our own strength and hard work. In fact to do so actually frustrates the flow of God’s grace and keeps us from walking in fullness!
Child of God, are you feeling bound, broken, injured, and overcome? That is not your lot in life my friends! God has come to give you freedom, victory, and wholeness in every area of your life! If you are a believer take authority over that which oppresses and limits you and cast it off! Command it to go and declare the truth found in God’s word!
Isaiah 54:17 written in 700BC prophesied our inheritance obtained by the cross of Christ and states, “no weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed, and you shall refute every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from me, declares the Lord.”
This inheritance is for us to live the abundant life Christ died to give us, but also to, “proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” Meaning we can bring healing, deliverance, wholeness, freedom and victory to those still in darkness!
Priests in the Old Testament ministered to God on behalf of man, but in the New Testament we are to act as ambassadors ministering the things of God to men! We are to represent Him and His Kingdom to those afar off!
That is why we move in the gifts of the Spirit, so we can give the world a taste of His goodness! When you see someone who is injured reach out in the name of Jesus and restore them to wholeness! When you see someone oppressed by depression, anxiety, or fear; reach out and deliver them from their bondage! Freely we have received and freely we give (Mat 10:8)!
