Hi.

Welcome To All Christ All The Time! A ministry dedicated to empowering the church with the simple proclamation of the finished work of Christ!

Die To Self? Christian Masochism and Truth

Die To Self? Christian Masochism and Truth

Romans 6:3-4
Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.

Well we have all heard it, "die to self! The gospel frees me from me!" It is a fad in the church to preach this ignorant hogwash to the pure and perfect sons and daughters of light. We are told that somehow God is requiring a form of suicide from us. One in which we turn our gaze inward and wage war against ourselves. Apparently God doesn't like us, He died and rose so He could annihilate our humanity and create a clone army of Christ. New agers discuss this same topic. They use the language of ridding one's self from the ego. This teaching is really just Christian masochism. It is a twisted and perverted expression of self-hate dressed up in religious garb and forced down the throats of the innocent.

You are a brand new self, you are called to walk in this newness that was imparted to you through the sacrifice of Jesus. God isn't trying to rid you of your individuality, your desires, or even your primal compulsions. Christ is literally God's answer to all your chaotic fits of fallenness. You are actually right, faultless, and pure. God is not trying to compel you to kill that! Indeed, moronic pastors, leaders, and speakers urge you to take the blade of self-righteousness and spill your own blood, but God is not the one championing this idiocy.

Through faith, in one instant, all your sins, failures, and mistakes were punished on Christ and you now stand as innocent pure children. The bible calls it righteousness. You are right through and through. You have been united with Christ and He has now become your life. His Spirit produces His fruit in you and you are called to live in reckless dependence upon His indwelling presence. We were dead and now we are alive. Why would God then, after raising us to new life, demand that we die? Foolishness!

Indeed Paul says in 2 Corinthians 5:14-15, " For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised." And so we have been redeemed, bought with a price, and no longer are we our own. We are His children, and we are those who now seek His will, we no longer live for ourselves. We trust in the guidance of the omniscient One and follow in step with the beat of His heart. But this is a far cry from a call to die yet again, daily, through vicious introspection and a violent and bloodthirsty self-hatred.

Friends, the only ones asking you to die are the devil and religious idiots. God has given you life, and that life is eternal. God isn't commanding you or I to fumble about internally ever fixed on our failures and shortcomings in some carnal attempt to rid ourselves of ourselves. He is inviting you to live! He died to give you a liberated and abundant existence! You are a new self, and a self that God is and always has been proud of!

Die to self is religious, demonic garbage, and any, nay all who teach it are blinded by ignorance and know not the heart or will of our ever-faithful ever-loving Abba. God does not desire "none of me and all of Him." He united Himself to us because He is crazy about this concept of "us." His infallibility and our frailty combining to produce something that God calls perfect. God accepts you, all of you! He is crazy about you, and He just wants you to live in freedom and enjoy Him!
