Post-Truth

Post-Truth

Post-truth: an adjective defined as relating to or denoting circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief.

The Oxford Dictionary declared "post-truth" its word of the year for 2016. This is a perfect and devastating word to describe the age that we are living in, and the violent downward spiral that we are quickly descending into.

We live in a world, particularly here in the west, in which truth itself has become a dirty word. Celebrity sages and gurus empower the hungry masses to find "their truth" as though truth were some subjective reality haphazardly slapped onto what ever seems to catch our fancy. How strange it is to find ourselves awake in such a nightmare? For without truth we are lost in the jungle of competing ideas, with no machete to part the vines, no compass to inform us where to go, and no map with which to know where we are. Pluralism is the death of truth and secularism wields this weapon with a lust for blood.

What is truth? Truth is exclusive, it grounds our beliefs or shows them to be mere imagination. Truth is independent of your feelings, unscathed by your desires, and seeks to act as a light illuminating your mental journey through reality. Truth is inescapable, necessary, and absolute.

It is a strange and deceived world that would wage war on truth. The culture we live in holds pluralism as its creed, which in essence renders all truth as relative. Thus effectively saying there is no truth, no absolutes, no up and no down. "Truth is what you feel," the sages and gurus say, "2+2 is not 4 if for some reason this sum is offensive to others. Let's make it 6 today and give those other numbers a shot!" Nonsense! This is the perspective of a society on the brink of utter disaster!

Why does our society fear truth? Because if one follows the bread crumbs eventually they find themselves at the feet of Jesus, and that is too much to bear. "Better we crucify it" they say, "as we did with Christ and pray that truth cannot be resurrected. We will bury it under the accusations of 'oppressive' and 'bigoted.' That way any who seek to bring it back to life will find themselves in a similar grave."

By all means start digging! For I welcome death and a grave next to truth!
